Number Fourteen
Lydia,
Your visit here two years ago was so much fun! We were both hugely pregnant and spent half of the visit doing our squats, I might even have a picture of that somewhere. That was a fun visit and I can’t wait for the next.
Facebook Marketplace is the best. I deleted my Facebook account years ago and ended up creating a new one just so that I could use Marketplace! What are some of your best finds so far? It’s always kind of like a treasure hunt!
Look at you go with your rock climbing and “running” (whatever you mean by that)! That’s such a great thing to be doing and your motivation is impressive. Can you share some with me? It’s so hard for me to find time but it’s cool that you do it with (or at least nearby) the kids. You’re right that it’s good for them to be able to see you exercising and taking care of your body.
People really are becoming far too sedentary these days. I remember learning in one of my people-focused interior design classes that the health of many people significantly deteriorates after retirement and it’s because they are no longer active.
Screens have such a huge part to play in this, too, especially with the younger few generations, ours included. I let Alder and Poppy watch some TV with limitations. When Alder had more screen time in his day to day life he was a lot more irritable and agitated, significantly cutting back on both the time allowed on screens and the actual content has helped so much.
Hiking with kids is amazing! It’s a bit more challenging and slow going but so worth it. My kids and I recently went on our first family hike (I’d taken Alder previously, before Poppy was born) and the kids did well and we all had a great time. They both walked the entire time! How do you carry Olga when you hike? You’ll have to show me the Colorado-esque trail you found near you!
It can be hard to appreciate where you live. I’m afraid I’m not very good at that either and, as you know, have been fighting hard to NOT live in Missouri for several years now… maybe you’ll be able to move somewhere beautiful one day! Or maybe you’ll even fall in love with Missouri one day. Who knows!
Enjoy your trip to Nevada! Tell me all about it later!
